Role Summary

In this high-impact role, you’ll work across departments while managing vendor data, reporting, compliance, and team performance. Key Responsibilities
  • Maintain excellent knowledge of assigned market space including the customers, vendors, their geographies and the products.
  • Source products from a variety of suppliers, within a specific product category.
  • Decide on the items to procure, identify suitable suppliers, negotiate essential sales and marketing contracts, secure inventory, and find the most effective ways to support the sales teams in promoting and selling our products.
  • Provide training to cross-functional teams and the businesses we serve on how to sell the product to the end user.
  • Develop and execute a category plan that delivers maximum results for the assigned category.
  • Develop and maintain highly effective and strategic alliances with suppliers.
  • Work closely with the Inventory team to ensure that the right product assortments are stocked appropriately and available on demand.
  • Conduct regular retail pricing benchmarking and analysis to set pricing that maximizes sales and profit margin.
  • Collaborate closely with sales peers to develop the optimal product mix recommendations for the category.
  • Support all marketing and operational initiatives.
  • Assume other duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent work experience.
  • 5+ years of product management or sourcing/purchasing experience.
  • Category management experience with a retail chain or wholesaler /distributor environment.

Preferred Qualifications
  • Bachelor’s Degree in a business or related field.
  • Experience in the industry-specific to the particular category for which the position manages.

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rates, ratios, and percentages and to draw and interpret graphs.
  • Frequent use of Outlook, Word, Excel, graphics, etc.
  • Regularly uses moderately complex oral and written skills. May train others in functional areas, interact with others and make presentations to department or middle management.
  • Problems encountered are routine, somewhat repetitive and generally solved by following clear directions and procedures.
  • Decisions generally affect one’s job or assigned functional area.
  • Results are defined; sets personal own goals and determines how to achieve results with few or no guidelines to follow; supervisor/manager provides broad guidance and overall direction.
  • Handle multiple tasks or projects simultaneously with moderate complexity.

Work Environment & Travel
  • Work is primarily sedentary: must be able to sit for extended periods and use a computer, keyboard, and mouse, frequently.
  • Travel may be required periodically, including overnight stays (contingent on position requirements).
  • The employee must occasionally lift and/or move up to 25 pounds.
